Hello August! It’s gonna be another hot weekend; The MUG has compiled the coolest and most comprehensive list of events from Thursday thru Sunday in Missoula and around Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Weekend PICKS!
The KettleHouse Amphitheater will be hoppin’ in Bonner all weekend. On Thursday, Logjam Presents welcomes Jason Mraz on The Mystical Magical Rhythmical Radical Ride Tour with the Molly Miller Trio. Ween plays a double-header set on Friday and Saturday. Dierks Bentley has a (sold out) performance on his Gravel & Gold Tour with George Birge at the KettleHouse Amphitheater on Sunday.
The Bigfork Summer Playhouse hosts performances the Disney Broadway musical “Beauty and The Beast” thru August 16, including at 8:00 pm this Thursday, August 1.
First Friday is happening all over Downtown Missoula and Downtown Hamilton with local businesses hosting art exhibits, live music, complimentary snacks and beverages.
Anaconda’s big annual Downtown Block Party is happening Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Stevensville’s 111th annual Creamery Picnic weekend of events and activities kicks off at 6:00 pm Friday on Main Street and at Lewis & Clark Park, continuing Saturday 7:00 am to 10:00 pm.
Western Montana’s farmers markets are in full swing for the season. Missoula alone has five Saturday markets, and with the rest of the area bustling with fresh local markets every day of the week and weekend. For some high-flyin’ motocross action, check out the Top Dawg Arenacross racing at the Polson Fairgrounds Friday and Saturday nights at 7:00 pm.
Ronan’s Pioneer Days Rodeo is Friday, Saturday at 7:30 pm and Sunday beginning at 3:00 pm at Lake County Fairgrounds.
Totfest, Montana’s Premier Heavy Metal & Tater Tot Festival, invades Missoula’s Dark Horse Bar from 1:00 pm Saturday til closing time. All Proceeds from this year benefit Watson Children’s Shelter. 19 bands, two stages, tater tot pig-out and casserole competition. If that weren’t enough, Oddpitch Brewing will debut their new Heavy Metal Hot Dish beer!
If you like your literary culture in haunted places, go see the free Performance of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” at the Montana Old State Prison Museum in Deer Lodge Saturday at 6:00 pm.
You’ll be captivated when Dan Dubuque takes over The Rustic Hut stage with Judith Gap in Florence at 8:30 pm Saturday with his Weissenborn guitar rocking out to songs you know by heart.
Take in the variety of Western Montana’s coolest grouping of vintage, custom and special motorcycles in one setting at the Spirits & Spokes Motorcycle Show from Noon to 6:00 pm Sunday at Montgomery Distillery in Downtown Missoula.
There are at least 70 local music shows of one kind or another in the area throughout the weekend – we have options!
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Lots of summer weekend activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton. If you’re headed up to Whitefish and Glacier, there are some outstanding pit stops to make along the way.
Get out & enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages – they need your business! Try a new local brew! Support our local artists and vendors at the area farmers markets. Take the family for a summertime hike. Get out on the mountain bike. Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly. Stay cool, and wear sunscreen!
