Weekend PICKS: Thursday, August 4th thru Sunday, August 7th

Welcome to August! The MUG has compiled the most comprehensive list of events in Missoula and around Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Weekend PICKS.
It’s First Friday and all the goodness that goes with it in Downtown Missoula, and Hamilton.
We’re counting around 100 music shows of one kind or another in the area. We’ve got options!
More big summer festivals are happening, including the big annual Stevensville Creamery Picnic, Smelterman’s Days in Anaconda, the Bob Marshall Music Festival in Seeley Lake, Festival of the Arts in Downtown Bigfork, and the Great Bear Festival in Kalispell.
Farmers Markets season is in full swing in Western Montana. We’re hearing huckleberries and Flathead cherries are appearing. You’ll find ’em here, and for a complete list of nearly three dozen in the area, check out our comprehensive Western Montana Farmers Markets story on The MUG.
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton.
Get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages. Support our local farmers and crafts people. Go float! Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
Please confirm event details at the source before you go. Last minute changes are common, especially due to weather. With each event listing, we try to include a web page or event link with more information you can check for changes.
Do you have a Western Montana event you would like to have included on The MUG? Click HERE to submit your event!

Whiskey Myers
Big Sky Brewing
5417 Trumpeter Way, Missoula, Montana
Tickets are still available here
For this band of renegade brothers, the goal isn’t to fit into a format or try a new direction for its own sake, it’s to be true to the music they love — and with Whiskey Myers they continue pushing in all directions and sharpening their attack, whether country, rock, blues, whatever — even adding the legendary McCrary Sisters’ gospel influence to the project on background vocals. “Everybody wants you to pick a genre, but we did this our whole career,” says Cody Cannon. “We like it all, so we’re gonna do it all. We’re better than we were at 20 years old — you try to hone your skills and get better, write better, play better. This is just how it came naturally, and it works better that way.”

I make art for people like me – fabulously weird, unapologetically themselves, the messed up and broken, the people with a past. You know, real people. I want to tell your story with my brush. I want you to come out in every possible way. And, when you do, I want you to love that person you find.”

With that, next month’s artist is @chelsi_soleil and @jaydepoint6 with @jayded.coyote who will be bringing in some awesome hand painted, beaded, and adorned hats as well as some handmade candles. As always, it’ll be a blast having some new artists in the store for the month.

Kiltro with Jesse The Ocelot
Zootown Arts Community Center
216 W Main St, Missoula, Montana
For advance tickets visit: https://showroom.zootownarts.org/…/kiltro-w-jesse-the…/
Kiltro is the brainchild of Chilean-American singer-songwriter Chris Bowers Castillo. Conceived in the lively, bohemian port city of Valparaiso, Chile, Kiltro draws much of its thematic energy from Latin-American folk artists like Victor Jara, Atahualpa Yupanqui, and Inti-Illimani, making for an emotive and stylistically unique merging of older genres with contemporary ones.
Jesse The Ocelot was born from the mountains, and learned at a young age his song from the songbirds. He’s traveled the cosmos in search of the secret and wants to share the beauty with anyone who will take the time to listen. He creates lush, atmospheric vocal harmonies and instrument loops with about half of his performance being improvisational and the other half being dialed in songs. Blending intense lyrics and ethereal sounds, Jesse will take you on a journey you didn’t know you needed to take. Jesse The Ocelot loves you!
