Weekend PICKS: Thursday, February 16th thru Sunday, February 19th

The MUG has compiled the most comprehensive list of events in Missoula and around Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Weekend PICKS – Thursday thru Sunday!
With this past week’s weather, spring skiing conditions are prime with very good snow conditions at the upper elevations. Check ahead for the local snow reports, and go! Many of the local cross-country and fat biking hotspots are being groomed and skiied. Get out and shred that gnar!
There are nearly 80 local music shows of one kind or another in the area throughout the weekend. We’ve got options!
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Lots weekend activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton.
Get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages. Support our local farmers and crafts people. Take the family for a crisp hike or some amazing skiing. Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
Please confirm event details at the source before you go. Last minute changes are common, especially due to weather. With each event listing, we try to include a web page or event link with more information you can check for changes.

Philipsburg Brewing Company
101 W Broadway St, Philipsburg, Montana
Blending a wide variety of musical influences, along with the comfort on stage that comes from over two decades of performing, Yotes entertains audiences with a mix of songs from 1950’s country, 1980’s neo rockabilly, modern Americana, and many genres and eras in between. He mixes songs by Johnny Cash, The Stray Cats, The Blasters, and Murder By Death with his own compositions. Old favorites are interspersed with some of his favorite songs by friends and up-and-coming artists he’s met through the years.
In 2009, when his existing band chose to take some time off, Yotes began performing as a solo artist. Over the years Yotes has played in blues bands, rockabilly and psychobilly bands, and toured the US in a Johnny Cash tribute. As he continued to develop his one-man show those experiences shaped his approach producing and performing his act. Yotes’ solo performances have become a tribute to the artists and music that have influenced his music, a respectful nod to some of his favorite contemporaries, and a testbed for new music as it’s written.

We will gather to honor Thor with feats of strength (tug-of-war, arm wrestling, etc), mighty drinking, inhuman feasting, and thunderous merriment! All are welcome, bring your friends! Often this is the event where we see the most new faces, so if you’ve been thinking about coming but haven’t yet, this is a good one to attend!
Thorrablot (Þorrablót) is a holiday widely celebrated in Iceland today. The modern feasting and dancing of Þorrablót is inspired by a yearly sacrifice to Thor mentioned in the Orkneyinga Saga. For Heljalingar, it is our first feast of the year and a promise that Thor will defeat the Winter and return the light and warmth of Spring to us.
We will also be conducting our yearly Assembly (aka Thing) in which we will ratify our Creed, hold elections for a new thane, and formally retire the senior thane.

Jamie Wyman Band with Radio Ranch
Monk’s Bar Missoula
221 Ryman St, Missoula, Montana
$5 cover / 21+
Jamie Wyman Band and Radio Ranch have several things in common: they call Whitefish home, they will hit the big stage at Under the Big Sky Festival 2023, and this will be their debut show at Monk’s. AND it promises to be a great night of Montana-made original music.
Jamie Wyman Band delivers a unique blend of heavy folk rock that is both anthemic and intimately focused on the importance of each lyric. Their music recreates the qualities of unconditional love: it tells all the truths, sees you for who you really are, and brings you through the dark back into the light where hope reins. The music soothes in times of inner conflict and unites in times of global conflict. This is not fast food pop music, it speaks to your authentic emotions and challenges us all to build a better version of ourselves and humanity. You can listen, learn more, and join their email list at www.jamiewymanband.com.
About Radio Ranch: Inspired by the folk revival of the 60’s and traditional country music, Rhett and Camille have long been in love with the freedom of wide-open country and the people within it. Writing from the point of view of the traveller, they bring a new perspective to the traditions and landscape of Americana and Traditional Country music. The result is a vintage sound and style juxtaposed with modern material to create a truly timeless and intimate form of storytelling. www.radioranchmusic.com

Sundog North
Smelter City Brewing
101 Main St, Anaconda, Montana
Sundog North was born a few years back as a duo effort featuring Laurie Banks (bass) and Fred Lerch (guitar) and a healthy dollop of vocal harmonies.
In early 2020, a week or so before the pandemic shut things down, we travelled to Ben Winship’s studio in Victor ID to record our CD*, and were joined by Michael Huberman, who dove in with his instrumental talents and added mandolin, banjo, dobro, electric guitar, and bottleneck guitar. The CD “Dakota Sun” was released in December of 2020 and Michael has made us a trio, playing with us whenever possible since the CD recording.
We continue to enjoy writing songs and letting them develop over time, and doing what local bands do – rehearse, play gigs when able, and have fun!
*A CD (compact disc) was, in ancient times, a data storage thing used to play music. Ask your grandmother.

Expect 6 and 12 string guitar, the occasional mandolin, a capella audio poetry, and intimate scratch-born vocals. Based out of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Jay radiates a poignant, playful take in his quasi-alternative folk-isms and a head-in-the-clouds-approach to biting acoustic rock. After several years of D.I.Y. touring throughout North America, from the Carolinas to Alaska, Jay’s road-inspired sound appeals to singer songwriter, indie-folk, blues, and alt-rock fans alike.

Jamie Wyman Band
Symes Hot Springs Hotel & Mineral Baths
209 Wall St, Hot Springs, Montana
Jamie Wyman Band delivers a unique blend of heavy folk rock that is both anthemic and focused on the importance of each lyric. Their music recreates the qualities of unconditional love: it tells all the truths, sees you for who you really are, and brings you through the dark back into the light where hope reigns. The music soothes in times of inner conflict and unites in times of global conflict. This is not fast food pop music, it speaks directly to your emotions and challenges us all to build a better version of ourselves and humanity.
JWB released their first studio album in July 2022. “Roads Less Traveled” was all heart and represents the gentler side of their repertoire. In 2023, they will release a series of singles that will bring in the heavier rock end of their spectrum and you will find them on stage at Under the Big Sky Festival. You can listen, learn more, and join their email list at www.jamiewymanband.com.
