The beginning of February brings First Friday (Missoula and Downtown Hamilton), with local businesses providing complimentary snacks and beverages, and a plethora of local artists’ latest works to check out.
It’s pre-Valentine’s weekend, with a bunch of pop-ups offering locally made thoughtful gifts to get a head start on shopping for your sweetie. Pro-tip: take your love to dinner this weekend to skip the lines at your favorite nice restaurant.
Outdoors, it’s cold, but the dedicated and prepared will be rewarded. ALL the local ski resorts are open, with more fresh snow again going into the weekend – powder for days! All are grooming and every place’s lifts are fully open. Lolo Pass Visitors Center and Chief Joseph are fluffy and groomed, and several areas in the Flathead have excellent trails for XC skiing. Rattlesnake and Pattee are being freshly groomed in the canyons for classic XC. MTB Missoula is winter-grooming trails at Marshall Mountain Park for fat bikes, courtesy of Fat Bike Missoula – epic! Pull up and bookmark The MUG’s Western Montana Snow Conditions – all in one place to make your plans.
The annual Whitefish Winter Carnival has all manner of fun happening all weekend, including their Beer Curling Championship at the Great Northern Bar; Penguin Plunge at Whitefish City Beach, and the Winter Carnival Grand Parade Saturday afternoon in Downtown Whitefish.
The Superbo – (uhh, “Big Game”) is on Sunday – every Western Montana bar with taps and big screens will have it on their big screens. Game starts at 4:30 pm MST; arrive early, get a good spot, settle in, and enjoy. If football’s not your thing, The MUG Events Calendar has all kinds of other options listed for you Sunday, as well.
We have over 60 live music events listed for the weekend – plan your indoor sports accordingly.
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Lots of winter activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton. If you’re headed up to Whitefish and Glacier, there are some outstanding pit stops to make along the way.
Get out & enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages – they need your business! Try a new winter local brew! Support our local artists and vendors at the area seasonal markets. Take the family for a brisk outdoor hike. Get out for some prime skiing. Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
