Weekend PICKS: Thursday, June 5th thru Sunday, June 8th
Welcome to the first weekend of June! It’s still two weeks til summer – but it feels like it now. There’s an insane amount of live music, outdoor events, and cool stuff to do, and we’re here to help. All the fun happenings around Western Montana are here with The MUG’s Weekend PICKS!
Downtown ToNight returns featuring food trucks and live music to Caras Park in Downtown Missoula with expanded hours 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm Thursday Nights June thru August (live music starts at 5:30 pm). Tonight’s band is the River City Rhythm Band.
It’s once again First Friday with all manner of art and music throughout the door fronts of Downtown Missoula, Hamilton and Bigfork, generally accompanied by free pu-pu’s and beverages – an excellent way to get your weekend started.
If the aroma of fresh wood chips and 2-stroke exhaust is your kind of perfume (it’s certainly among our favorites), Ronan’s annual Mission Valley Chainsaw Carving Rendezvous is this weekend at Lake County Fairgrounds, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm Thursday thru Saturday, and 9:00 am to 1:00 pm Sunday.
The Yellowstone Darby Xtreme Rodeo is happening this weekend, featuring championship YDXB Bareback action from 2:00 pm to 7:30 pm Saturday and Sunday at Darby Rodeo Arena. It all gets started first with the new Darby Music Fest featuring headliners Ned Ledoux, Chancey Williams and six more great country music bands performing 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm Friday at Darby Rodeo Arena Pavilion.
The farmers’ market season is well underway, including Columbia Falls and Ronan on Thursday, Polson and Saint Ignatius on Friday, and all the ones in Downtown Missoula, Hamilton, Kalispell, Stevensville, Arlee, and Hot Springs on Saturday morning. On Sunday, there are new farmers markets starting up in Columbia Falls and Ronan to check out.
The MUG’s Western Montana Summer Farmers Markets guide is ready to help – save the link and get around to all of ’em over the next several months.
Little kids (and some big ones, too) will be stoked to help drive the big equipment at Missoula Under Construction (a fundraiser for the Missoula Food Bank) at the Missoula Fairgrounds Saturday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Entries are full, but it’ll be worth your drive to Ovando to cheer on the competitors racing in The Dusty Bandita – Epic Women’s Gravel Cycling Race starting at 9:00 am Saturday.
The Rocky Mountain Arts Festival is a two-day outdoor arts festival, held on the University of Montana Oval Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, features fine artists, painters, photographers, sculptors, metalwork, glass artists, jewelers, and, more. The RMA Fest will have cartoon artists, face painters, live music, food, games, and plenty of open space for picnicking with your loved ones or enjoying a game of cornhole with your friends.
We’ve seen the Glacier Park road crews have cleared Going to the Sun Road up to Logan Pass. It looks like the road is available for cycling most if not all the way to the top! Check the conditions before you go – but it looks good to go.
We have around 60 live music events listed for the weekend – take your pick! It’s officially patio season now. You can’t go wrong with seeking out any and all of the fantastic area rooftop bars and outdoor patios to soak in this fantastic spring Montana weather.
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Lots of spring weekend activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton. If you’re headed up to Whitefish and Glacier, there are some outstanding pit stops to make along the way.
Get out & enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages – they need your business! Try a new local brew! Support our local artists and vendors at the area markets. Take the family for a brisk outdoor hike – the wildflowers are blooming in prime time. Conditions everywhere are perfect just about everywhere for mountain bike riding. Spring fishing is rockin’. Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.

Wally Cleaver: Boy, Beaver, wait’ll the guys find out you were hanging around with a girl. They’ll really give you the business.
Theodore “Beaver” Cleaver: But gee, Wally, you hang around with girls and the guys don’t give you the business.
Wally Cleaver: Well, that’s because I’m in high school. You can do a lot of stuff in high school without getting the business.
