Weekend PICKS: Thursday, May 15th thru Sunday, May 18th
It’s greening up around here! Between dodging (or playing in) the rain, and hitting the sweet spots of springtime sunshine in between, there’s a ton of fun things to do this weekend. All the happenings are here for Western Montana with The Missoula Underground’s Weekend PICKS!
In Missoula, the big annual MaggotFest rugby weekend gets underway Friday with matches between clubs from around the country and the world being held at Fort Missoula Regional Park thru Sunday, and the huge Missoula MaggotFest Block Party with live music by Rev. Slanky closing down Ryman Street for the festivities Saturday night in front of Monk’s and The Bodega.
Cyclists can sign up for MTCX Events’ annual Garden City Gravel event up Six Mile Road in Huson, starting at 8:30 am Saturday morning, with 25 & 55-mile courses, and recreational and competitive categories for all age groups.
At the Missoula Childrens Theater, the Missoula Irish Dancers present 82 Fires – “A Tale of Fire in Footwork” with performances on Saturday and Sunday.
Up in Kalispell, the Artists and Craftsmen of the Flathead will have their annual Start of Summer Art & Craft Show happening all weekend, Friday thru Sunday, at the Flathead County Fairgrounds.
The farmers’ market season is well underway, including Columbia Falls on Thursday, Polson and Saint Ignatius on Friday, and all the ones in Downtown Missoula, Hamilton, Kalispell, Stevensville, Arlee, and Hot Springs on Saturday morning. The MUG’s Western Montana Summer Farmers Markets guide is ready to help – save the link and get around to all of ’em over the next several months.
We have around 60 live music events listed for the weekend – take your pick! It’s officially patio season now. You can’t go wrong with seeking out any and all of the fantastic area rooftop bars and outdoor patios to soak in this fantastic spring Montana weather.
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Lots of spring weekend activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton. If you’re headed up to Whitefish and Glacier, there are some outstanding pit stops to make along the way.
Get out & enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages – they need your business! Try a new local brew! Support our local artists and vendors at the area markets. Take the family for a brisk outdoor hike. It’s prime time for a spring mountain bike ride. Spring fishing is rockin’. Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
