Weekend PICKS: Thursday, May 1st thru Sunday, May 4th
Oh, hey – it’s MAY! Gear up and get ready to get out there, it’s gonna be fantastic weather, and there’s too much good stuff happening to stay home. All the happenings are here for Western Montana with The Missoula Underground’s Weekend PICKS!
With the flip of the calendar, it’s First Friday in Downtown Missoula, and also in Hamilton, Bigfork and around the area. Get out & take advantage of the free arts and music with an evening stroll to enjoy the evening.
Somebody decided that Saturday, May 3 is “National Montana Day” – heck, we celebrate living here every day we step out of the house. Might as well super-celebrate where we live all weekend, why not?
Top of the list, this weekend kicks off the farmers’ market season all over, including Polson on Friday and all the ones in Downtown Missoula, Hamilton, Kalispell, and Stevensville on Saturday morning. The MUG’s Western Montana Summer Farmers Markets guide is back up for your convenience – save the link and get around to all of ’em over the next several months.
Additionally on Saturday, the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula is hosting the spring edition of the Prairie Sisters Vintage Market.
While you’re scouring the markets in Downtown Missoula on Saturday, block out a little time to relax in the afternoon at the 31st Annual Garden City Brewfest from Noon to 7:00 pm in Caras Park.
Saturday is Derby Day! – Sure, the Kentucky Derby is happening (and there’ll be lots of places where you can wear big floppy hats and watch on the big screen while sipping a mint julep) – but for our money (free!) it’s Corgi Derby day at Dornblaser Field from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm. There’ll be all manner of Corgi fun and doggie competitions hosted by the Missoula Valley Corgi Club.
MCT’s staging of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Cinderella 2025” continues their run, with performances all weekend, and thru May 11 at Missoula Children’s Theatre.
We have over 60 live music events listed for the weekend – take your pick!
And, a friendly reminder for all our geeky nerd friends –
Sunday is Star Wars Day – May the 4th be with you.
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Lots of spring weekend activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton. If you’re headed up to Whitefish and Glacier, there are some outstanding pit stops to make along the way.
Get out & enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages – they need your business! Try a new local brew! Support our local artists and vendors at the area markets. Take the family for a brisk outdoor hike. It’s prime time for a spring mountain bike ride. Spring fishing is rockin’. Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.

“We’ll be going to the fish market and a farmer’s market this afternoon to get what we need to make and eat dinner as a family. I’m trying to expose my kids to going to a local market and learning what that’s all about.”
