Weekend PICKS: Thursday, May 2nd thru Sunday, May 9th
Woof, welcome to May! Let’s get it started, shall we? It’s the opening weekend for many of the Summer Farmers Markets, we have First Friday, don’t forget Saturday is Star Wars Day (“May the 4th be with you”), Sunday is Derby Day AND Cinco de Mayo. And right now, it’s greener than Ireland out there. The MUG has compiled the most comprehensive list of events from Thursday thru Sunday in Missoula and around Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Weekend PICKS!
With a return to spring and summer on the way, Western Montana’s farmers markets are getting ready for the new season. All the Missoula markets and a few others open on May 4, and the rest will be opening over the following several weeks. Check out The MUG’s Guide to Summer Western Montana Farmers Markets and you can see ’em all any time on The MUG Events Calendar. We’re here to help!
MCT’s performances of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” continues its run this weekend and next at the Center for the Performing Arts.
MT Repertory Theatre’s / Plays on Tap “Hip Strip Hijinks” continues this weekend, starting at 7:30 pm nightly Thursday thru Saturday, a series of five new 10-minute plays written by nationally renowned playwrights. Patrons will meet up at GILD Brewing and then walk to five nearby establishments.
The Kentucky Derby might be happening Sunday, but for our money, we’d much prefer to go see the Western Montana Corgtucky Derby happening right here Saturday at the Missoula Fairgrounds. Corgi races = Instant classic!
If all this activity makes you thirsty, how convenient is this? The 30th Annual Garden City Brewfest is at Caras Park on Saturday from Noon to 7:00 pm.
There are around 70 local music shows of one kind or another in the area throughout the weekend – we have options!
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Lots of springtime activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton. If you’re headed up to Whitefish and Glacier, there are some outstanding pit stops to make along the way.
Get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages – they need your business! Try a new local brew! Support our local artists and vendors at the area farmers markets. Take the family for a brisk hike. Get out on the mountain bike. Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
