Weekend PICKS: Thursday, June 29th thru Sunday, July 2nd
Monday & Tuesday July 4th / Independence Day Activities on The MUG Events Calendar!
Oh, hey July! What did you do with June? The MUG has compiled the most comprehensive list of events in Missoula and around Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Weekend PICKS!
It’s been officially summer for a couple weeks, but this weekend is finally gonna feel like it – it’s heating up! The forecast is for highs in the low 90s by Saturday. River season starts now! The water’s still running fairly high and cold – be safe and smart if you’re getting out on our local rivers.
Summer Farmers Markets season is in full swing, with all the area markets now open. While Independence Day isn’t happening until next Tuesday, there are lots of local celebrations and events to help observe the holiday this weekend. If you have Monday and Tuesday off for the 4th, we have a bunch more activities for those dates listed separately on The MUG Events Calendar – make your plans!
There are more than 110 local music shows of one kind or another in the area throughout the weekend… we have options!
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Lots of summertime weekend activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton. If you’re headed up to Glacier, there are some outstanding pit stops to make along the way. Road trip!
It’s prime patio season – get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages on a sunny day. Try a new local brew! Support our local farmers and crafts people at the farmers markets. Take the family for an early summer hike, or get the bikes out for a big ride. Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
Please confirm event details at the source before you go. Last minute changes are common, especially due to weather. With each event listing, we try to include a web page or event link with more information you can check for changes.

“The essence of America — that which really unites us — is not ethnicity, or nationality, or religion. It is an idea — and what an idea it is: that you can come from humble circumstances and do great things. That it doesn’t matter where you come from, but where you are going.”
Condoleezza Rice

Grease the Musical
Bigfork Summer Playhouse
526 Electric Ave, Bigfork, Montana
It’s 1959, and Rydell High School’s senior class is in rare form. The too-cool-for-school “Burger Palace Boys” are stealing hub-caps and acting tough and their gum-snapping, chain-smoking “Pink Ladies” are looking hot in bobby sox and pedal pushers. The 1950s high school dream is about to explode in this rollicking musical that is both an homage to the idealism of the fifties and a satire of high schoolers’ age-old desire to be rebellious, provocative and rebellious. At the heart of the story is the romance between hot-rodding gangster Danny Zuko and the sweet new girl in town, Sandy Dumbrowski. They had a secret romance in summer, but now back in the context of school, peer-pressure and cliques make their love a bit more complicated. Can Danny maintain his cool dude status and still get make demure Sandy his girl? The whole gang sings and dances around Danny and Sandy’s romance, through such hit songs as “Greased Lightnin’”, “We Go Together”, and “Mooning”, recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation. Starting off with an eight-year Broadway run, Grease is among the world’s most popular musicals and has a cult-like following, especially among teens!
Songs include: Summer Nights, Raining On Prom Night, Greased Lightning, Mooning, Freddy My Love, The Hand Jive and many more!

$10 Adult Tickets / $5 for Students, Military and Seniors
Written and Conceived by Jim Caron
Music and Lyrics by Jim Caron and Michael McGill
The Missoula Children’s Theatre takes pride in presenting Treasure Island, an original adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s epic novel.
Young Jim Hawkins, a mischievous lad, lives with his mother and six sisters in a seaside village on the coast of Maine. The year is 1782, and the American Revolutionary War is in its last days. Longing for adventure, Jim comes under the hypnotic spell of the legendary pirate Long John Silver. While waiting tables in the family Inn, Jim finds a treasure map and, with the villainous Silver as his seeming mentor, sails uncharted seas with only the ragged map and a flock of seagulls as guides. Always up for adventure, Jim’s ruffian friends say farewell to their village parents and serve as cabin boys for Silver and his band of hilarious (although unsavory) pirate types. Once on the island, nights are sleepless as true colors are revealed in our hero’s quest for the proverbial happy ending. Then- at last- the treasure is found, and hand in hand we’re homeward bound.

Cutler Bros. Theatre
301 Main Street, Deer Lodge, Montana
Don’t miss the final weekend of one of the best on-stage Disney musicals!
Based on Disney’s epic animated musical adventure and Edgar Rice Burrough’s Tarzan of the Apes, Tarzan features heart-pumping music by rock legend, Phil Collins, and a book by Tony Award-winning playwright, David Henry Hwang. High-flying excitement and hits, like the Academy Award winning “You’ll Be in My Heart,” as well as “Son of Man” and “Two Worlds,” make Tarzan an unforgettable theatrical experience.
Washed up on the shores of West Africa, an infant boy is taken in and raised by gorillas who name him Tarzan. Apart from striving for acceptance from his ape father, Tarzan’s life is mostly monkey business until a human expedition treks into his tribe’s territory, and he encounters creatures like himself for the first time. Tarzan struggles to navigate a jungle, thick with emotion, as he discovers his animal upbringing clashing with his human instincts.

$35 Adults / $30 Seniors 65+ / $22 Children 10 & Under
Book by Rick Elice & Marshall Brickman
Music & Lyrics by Andrew Lippa
In the kooky, upside-down world of the Addams Family, to be sad is to be happy, to feel pain is to feel joy, and death and suffering are the stuff of their dreams. Nonetheless, this quirky family still has to deal with many of the same challenges faced by any other family, and the spookiest nightmare faced by every family creates the focus Lippa, Brickman, and Elice’s musical: the Addams kids are growing up.
The Addamses have lived by their unique values for hundreds of years and Gomez and Morticia, the patriarch and matriarch of the clan, would be only too happy to continue living that way. Their dark, macabre, beloved daughter Wednesday, however, is now an eighteen year-old young woman who is ready for a life of her own. She has fallen in love with Lucas Beineke, a sweet, smart boy from a normal, respectable Ohio family — the most un-Addams sounding person one could be!
And to make matters worse, she has invited the Beinekes to their home for dinner. In one fateful, hilarious night, secrets are disclosed, relationships are tested, and the Addams family must face up to the one horrible thing they’ve managed to avoid for generations: change.
Songs include: When You’re an Addams, Pulled, One Normal Night, The Moon & Me, Crazier Than You and more.

ZACC Rock Camp
The Wilma
131 Higgins Avenue, Missoula, Montana
ZACC Rock Camps are a cornerstone of our Youth Education experience. First ideated and implemented in 2014 by Kia Liszak, ZACC Rock Camps build kids’ self esteem through personal music exploration. Regardless of musical experience, campers receive instrument instruction on all the essential elements of a rock band: drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, and vocals. During their week at camp, they form a band and name it, write an original song, screen print their own band T-shirts, and ultimately perform their song in front of a live audience at the end of the week.
The ZACC is beyond excited and so grateful to Logjam Presents for hosting three of our Rock Camp Performances at The Wilma this summer! Friday, June 30 will feature Boys Rock Camp; Friday, July 21 will feature Coed Rock Camp I; Friday, August 4 will feature Coed Rock Camp II. All band names are TBA, as they will be formed the week of each performance.

Snowschool is the dance music project of Helena-based Josh Stumberg. Snowschool is meant to get you up and on your feet, ready to dance the night away. Heavy hitting bass mixed with choppy vocals and heady chords all amount to a show worth bobbing your head to. Josh found electronic music outside of Montana, and has decided to try and bring some new, alternative music back home. You can find Snowschool on all the streaming platforms, and can follow Josh on social media to see what he is up to. Let’s dance!
Queenager is the combination of glitchy, punchy synth tones mixed with vocoded lyrical beauty that pierces listeners straight to the heart. The project was started in January 2020, and through the pandemic the duo Sarah Frazier and Bryan Kostors hunkered down together on a sexy synth wave mission. With the release of their debut album “Easy” in June 2021, Queenager is on the path to leading crowds to dancing bliss and leading the charge on making Montana a place for letting loose.
If you don’t already know what a party’s like with DJ Auntie E, you wanna find out.

Based on Sholom Aleichem’s Tevye and his Daughters, Fiddler on the Roof is the beloved story of the small, tradition-steeped town of Anatevka, Russia, where Jews and Russians live in delicate balance. During the course of the show, the time honored traditions of Anatevka are both embraced and challenged by Tevye and his colorful community, as they witness his daughters, Tzeitel, Hodel and Chava, grow up and fall in love in a time of extraordinary change. Fiddler on the Roof’s Broadway premier became the longest-running Broadway musical in history, a title it maintained for almost 10 years. It is a story that captures the essential human longings for love, community, success, freedom, family, and meaning.
