Labor Day Weekend PICKS: Thursday, August 31st thru Monday, September 4th
Buh-bye, August – hellooo September! The MUG has compiled the most comprehensive list of events in Missoula and around Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Labor Day Weekend PICKS (including Bonus Day / Monday)! After a stormy week, we’re in for very pleasant weather all weekend – make the most of it.
The Ravalli County Fair and Rockin’ RC Rodeo is going full buckaroo now through Saturday in Hamilton.
The legendary Billy Idol is in Missoula for a sold-out show Thursday night at the KettleHouse Amphitheater. If you’re lucky to have tickets, don’t miss that rebel yell! The last Downtown Tonight of the summer is happening Thursday at Caras Park, with the Joan Zen Band closing down the season. MTB Missoula has their new “Quick ‘n’ Dirty” Dual Slalom Mountain Bike races happening at Marshall Mountain Park Thursday night.
With September rolling in, that means First Friday in Downtown Missoula – and also in Hamilton and Bigfork. See some art, snack on some puu-puu’s, get out and about downtown.
Summer Farmers Markets season is in full swing, with all the area markets open. This will be the last weekend for the Seeley Lake Sunday Market, and also for the Bigfork Monday Market. Go stock up with all the seasonal produce while you can.
Your University of Montana Griz Football season opener is Saturday vs. Butler at Washington-Grizzly Stadium – it should be a gorgeous day to be there. GO Griz!
Up and coming Montana singer-songwriter Jaden Decker will be playing Saturday night at The Jack Saloon out past Lolo – sure to be a great show at one of our favorite venues. There are nearly 100 local music shows of one kind or another in the area throughout the weekend… we have options!
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Lots of summertime weekend activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton. If you’re headed up to Glacier, there are some outstanding pit stops to make along the way. Road trip!
It’s prime patio season – get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages on a sunny day. Try a new local brew! Support our local farmers and crafts people at the farmers markets. Take the family for a late summer hike, or get the bikes out for a cool early (or late) ride. Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.

“The problem is that those of us who are lucky enough to do work that we love are sometimes cursed with too damn much of it.”
