A Taste of Oktoberfest
Bayern Brewing Inc.
1507 Montana St, Missoula, Montana
We have been getting lots of questions on whether or not the traditional Oktoberfest at Bayern Brewing Inc. or Germanfest at Caras Park will be taking place this year and we are sad to say they will not. We debated on doing a socially distanced version of the events, however holding such a large gathering during these times would not be wise. We want to continue to keep everyone safe so next year we can host an even bigger Oktoberfest and Germanfest celebration than in years past (fingers crossed).
So with that said, Bayern Brewing Inc. and Global and Cultural Affairs in ARTS Missoula are coming together to bring you the 2020 version of the celebration…. A Taste of Oktoberfest ! Starting the week of September 14th, Bayern Brewing Inc., Edelweiss Bistro, The Stone of Accord, The Thomas Meagher Bar, and Iron Horse Bar & Grill will have authentic German Beer Steins available for purchase. Each location will host a smaller socially distanced event, with specials and promotions while strictly following safety guidelines. Keep an eye out for further details.
This year the steins have a slightly different look but you can still choose between the pewter lidded stein for $40 or the stein with no lid for $25 (form of payment and time of availability may vary at each location). With your purchase of this authentic German Beer Stein you will help support the connection with our German sister city Neckargemünd, Germany. Keep in mind these steins are VERY limited this year, so get yours while supplies last.

The Fog
The Historical Museum at Fort Missoula
3400 Captain Rawn Way, Fort Missoula, Montana
THE FOG
By Jean Ann Douglass
Fresh from university, clutching proposals and plans, a man tends his newly assigned patch of forest. At night, he visits with his wife. At night, the forest is free. Inspired by gothic drama, city planning, the creation of the national forest service, and Gifford Pinchot’s secret marriage to a ghost, this world premiere short play will take place in and around the fire tower at the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula.
This Plays on Tap production was designed with social distancing in mind. To read more about the play and how live performances will work, visit montanarep.com/the-fog
ABOUT THE SHOW
The Fog is a world-premiere play, commissioned by The Rep, in answer to the question ‘how can we still do live theatre during the pandemic?’ The play contains characters who never come in contact with one another and is performed in a space that allows audience members and actors to safely socially distance outdoors. Additionally, the show is short – about 40 minutes total – to limit your time at the venue.
The play itself is about formative moments in the history of Montana – the Great Fire of 1910 and the early days of the National Forest Service – all against the backdrop of the fire tower at the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula.
HOW THE SHOW WILL WORK
The audience space will be divided into boxes that can be occupied by one or two people. The boxes will also be spread apart with marked entry spaces.
NOTE: Please bring a blanket or chairs – there are no seats at the venue.
You’ll check in at a marked table near the entrance to the space. You’ll state your name and we’ll check you off our list and direct you to your box. There’ll be a QR code that you can scan that will give you electronic access to the playbill.
Masks are REQUIRED for check-in and seating. Masks are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED for the duration of the show.

Swing For Downtown
Ogren Park Allegiance Field
700 Cregg Ln, Missoula, Montana
Description: Play for the People Who Bring You Downtown’s Signature Events! COVID-19 has had a significant impact on the Downtown Missoula community and the Missoula Downtown Association. The loss of community festivals, membership events and Caras Park rentals means the MDA has lost more than 50% of its annual funding that brings life and vibrancy to the Heart of Missoula.
In response the Missoula Downtown Association and the Missoula PaddleHeads Baseball Team will partner together to offer Swing for Downtown, a Top Golf extravaganza at Ogren Park Allegiance Field on Friday, September 18, 2020 from 1-10 pm.
With no Griz Football in Missoula this fall, Swing for Downtown will offer a new, alternative entertainment option, and all Missoulians are invited to join the fun. The event will feature a nine-hole golf course inside the stadium. The tee-boxes will be on the concourse, and the holes will be on the field.
Sponsored by Roemer’s Point S, the Swing for Downtown outing will feature six flights with eight teams per flight. The first three flights will cost $250 per team (4 participants), and the second three flights are $300 per team of 4. The registration fee includes a swag bag, one complimentary adult beverage, and either lunch or dinner, depending on the flight. Additional food and beverages will be available for sale, and there will be additional games, raffles and entertainment throughout the day, so folks are encouraged to bring cash, as well as their clubs.
Due to a limited capacity of just 48 teams, we encourage you to register today!
With community and participant safety as a top priority, attendees will be required to wear face coverings when entering and exiting the stadium or using common-area services, including movement between holes. If needed, masks will be provided. Attendees will be allowed to remove their face covering once they are settled into their stationary and distanced locations.
Approximately 25 volunteers will be needed for each three-hour shifts to help ensure all guests have a wonderful experience.

A gesture waves us on: Opening Reception
Radius Gallery
120 N Higgins, Missoula, Montana
Radius Gallery’s next exhibition features new, deeply imaginative artworks by John Isaiah Pepion, Sue Tirrell and Elizabeth Jean Younce
The title of the show is derived from the poem
“A Walk” by Rainer Maria Rilke (translated by Robert Bly):
My eyes already touch the sunny hill,
going far ahead of the road I have begun.
So we are grasped by what we cannot grasp;
it has its inner light, even from a distance-
and changes us, even if we do not reach it,
we already are; a gesture waves us on,
answering our own wave…
but what we feel is the wind in our faces.

Featuring Mara Luther and Nevin Graves, the net proceeds of this fundraising production will be split between Hamilton Players and the Daly Mansion.
Andrew and Melissa are childhood friends whose lifelong correspondence begins with birthday party thank-you notes and summer camp postcards. They continue to exchange letters through the boarding school and college years. While Andy is off at war Melissa marries, but her attachment to Andy remains strong and she continues to keep in touch as he marries and becomes a successful attorney. Eventually she and Andy engage in a brief affair, but it is really too late for both of them. However Andy’s last letter, written to her mother after Melissa’s untimely death, makes it eloquently clear how much they really meant, and gave to, each other over the years—physically apart, perhaps, but spiritually as close as only true lovers can be.
