Well, welcome to August – also known as our traditional start to smoke season, off to a flying start. Of course, you’ll want to pay close attention to the constantly-changing DEQ Montana smoke forecast – or look out your own window. If it’s not too bad, there are some great outdoor happenings all weekend. And if it gets pretty bad – well, we have you covered with tons of indoor options too.
Don’t hold your breath for cooler weather until at least Saturday (see what we did right there?) – some rain will be welcome as long as we don’t pay the price with lightning strikes. By then, though, we’ll get some relief from the ridiculous heat.
The only thing hotter than the weather is all the summer options to choose from – The MUG has compiled the most comprehensive list of events in Missoula and around Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Weekend PICKS!
The river season is well underway, and with highs in the 90s through at least Friday, getting in the water will be high on the to-do list! Be safe and smart if you’re getting out on our local rivers. Don’t go solo – buddy up. Summer Farmers Markets season is in full swing, with all the area markets open.
There are over 90 local music shows of one kind or another in the area throughout the weekend… we have options!
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Lots of summertime weekend activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton. If you’re headed up to Glacier, there are some outstanding pit stops to make along the way. Road trip!
It’s prime patio season – get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages on a sunny day. Try a new local brew! Support our local farmers and crafts people at the farmers markets. Take the family for a morning summer hike, or get the bikes out for a cool early (or late) ride. Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
