Weekend PICKS: Thursday, October 12th thru Sunday, October 15th
Doesn’t it feel like we’re already in bonus time for fall colors and weather? Enjoy it while we can! The MUG has compiled the most comprehensive list of mid-October events in Missoula and around Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Weekend PICKS!
The Montana Film Festival is happening all weekend at The Roxy Theater on Missoula’s Hip Strip, with a bunch of great locally-produced movies each afternoon & evening Thursday through Sunday.
Fall Festivals are here in a big way, happening all over including the Family Fall Fest on Saturday at Fort Missoula Regional Park, the Harvest Festival Pie Sale & Auction (with live music from Night Blooming Jasmine) on Saturday at O’Hara Commons in Hamilton, the Circus & Cider Fall Festival on Saturday at the UM Campus Oval. Turner Farms in Missoula has their annual Pumpkin Festival from Noon to 5 on Saturday & Sunday. On Sunday, you can take the kids to the Circus Monster Mash at the Ravalli County Fairgrounds in Hamilton.
It’s still Oktoberfest season! The 3rd annual Montana Brewers’ Oktoberfest starts at 5:00 pm Saturday at Cranky Sam Public House in Downtown Missoula; live bluegrass with The Timber Rattlers.
Summer Farmers Markets season is winding down, with many of the area markets hitting their final weekend dates including Ronan (Thursday), and Kalispell (Saturday); go stock up with all the fall produce while you can.
Saturday morning is the Tammany Trot 5K fundraiser fun run at the Daly Mansion in Hamilton. For mountain bike racers, Saturday is the 6 Hours of Disco on the Echo Lake trails around Discovery Ski Area near Anaconda. For a more relaxing bike experience, Saturday is the big annual Tweed Ride with Free Cycles in Missoula at 4:00 pm Saturday.
There’s another free show (part of Logjam’s The Groove Free Concert Series) at the Top Hat late Saturday night with Americana singer-songwriter Miller Campbell.
There are over 90 local music shows of one kind or another in the area throughout the weekend… we have options!
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Lots of early fall weekend activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton. If you’re headed up to Glacier, there are some outstanding pit stops to make along the way.
Get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages – they need your business! Try a new local brew! Support our local farmers and crafts people at the farmers markets. Take the family for a crisp autumn hike, or get the bikes out for a cool fall colors ride. Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
