Weekend PICKS: Thursday, October 21st thru Sunday, October 24th
Ahhhhh, October!
The frost is on the pumpkin, and we’re well into the sweet spot of autumn. Our local microbreweries have rolled out the barrel with some fantastic fall brews, the weather’s getting distinctly chillier – but so far, we’ve been spared our first blizzard that we already had one and done this time last year.
The MUG is here with all the happenings this October weekend around Missoula, and up the Bitterroot and Flathead valleys. There’s a cornucopia of live local music all over the place – dozens of local music shows if you know where to look (right here!) Missoula’s biggest annual cyclocross bike race and party returns to Big Sky Brewing with Rolling Thunder – if you don’t get your cowbell out there Saturday and/or Sunday – we’ll, you just ain’t Missoulian.
Get out and enjoy our remaining late-season area farmers markets, bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages. Sing a karaoke song, or catch a comedy show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
Please note that events are subject to cancellation or change at the last minute. Be sure to check the event links to confirm your plans.

Filmmaker Lucy Walker looks to answer a question humanity can no longer afford to ignore: why are catastrophic wildfires increasing in number and severity around the world, and can anything be done to lessen the staggering death and destruction it causes? Featuring wildfire footage and interviews with survivors, firefighters and scientists, the film follows the Camp Fire and the aftermath, where towns struggle to rebuild and debate on what could have prevented the fires.

The Kitchen Witches
Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts
526 Electric Avenue, Bigfork, Montana
Isobel Lomax and Dolly Biddle are two “mature” cable-access cooking show hostesses who have hated each other for thirty years, ever since Larry Biddle dated one and married the other. When circumstances put them together on a TV show called The Kitchen Witches, the insults are flung harder than the food! Dolly’s long-suffering TV-producer son, Stephen, tries to keep them on track, but as long as Dolly’s dressing room is one inch closer to the set than Isobel’s, it’s a losing battle, and the show becomes a ratings smash as Dolly and Isobel top both Martha Stewart and Jerry Springer!
Tickets also available at Bigfork Drug, Pocketstone Café. General admission tickets: Adults-$15 Seniors/Students-$10 Children under 12-$5 www.tix.com/ticket-sales/tix/2861

MORE ABOUT THE BAND:
Daring Greatly: Formed in the sunny eastern foothills of Canada’s Rocky Mountains, Daring Greatly combines their harmony-rich, rock n’ roll with U.S Folk, Americana traditions from the ’60s and ’70s. They are best known for their mesmerizing family (blood) harmonies provided by two brothers, Patrick and Liam Croome. In 2015, the band leaped forward with best friend and drummer Brayden Tario from Calgary, Alberta, and moved to Southern California. Since then, the band paved their path with hours of experience performing over 1,000 shows across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The band can offer various arrangements in performances, scaling to coffee-shop, Folk/Americana acoustic sets to full sounding 7-piece Jam/Rock sets that will fill a large concert hall or theatre. They have been steadily growing a stunning catalog of soul-full original songs with two full-length albums, ‘Cornerstones’ (2016) and ‘Works of Art’ (2017), and their latest, 6-song EP ‘Give Myself to the World’ (2021). Their albums are filled with honest lyrics encompassed by deep and introspective messages about courage, vulnerability, and personal freedom, all of which are at the forefront of the bands’ core values to lead a life that serves a purpose greater than ones-self.
