Weekend PICKS: Thursday, October 7th thru Sunday, October 10th

Ahhhhh, autumn!
The next couple weekends are prime time for fall colors and great fall weather in Western Montana. Get out on the trails and enjoy the autumn we didn’t get much of last time around. There’s already frosty white crowns on top of our local peaks – snow and winter will be here soon enough. Not just quite yet.
It’s still Oktoberfest at a few of the local bars and breweries – get your oom-pah on while you can. You can’t swing a deceased cat without hitting a local live comedy show – so hit one! While you still have some brain cells, you have the opportunity to use a few as our local Trivia Nights are picking up with the cooler evenings.
The MUG is here with all the happenings this October weekend around Missoula, and up the Bitterroot and Flathead valleys. There’s live local music all over the place – no less than 60 local music shows if you know where to look (right here!) Get out and enjoy our remaining late-season area farmers markets, bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages. Sing a karaoke song, or catch a comedy show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
Please note that events are subject to cancellation or change at the last minute. Be sure to check the event links to confirm your plans.
“…I cannot endure to waste anything so precious as autumnal sunshine by staying in the house. So I have spent almost all the daylight hours in the open air.”

Monk’s Bar
221 Ryman Street, Missoula, Montana
Anyone who’s met Jason Root or danced to him DJing over the past decade knows he’s a beaming light of fun, good vibes, and sexy house music. A long time member of the Fox Den and overall contributor to the Montana music scene, we are lucky to have him.
For those unaware, this summer, Jason suffered a severe stroke at the young age of 33. While Jason is now back home and in recovery, this event has placed a large financial burden on Jason and Greta. (more details can be found at https://www.gofundme.com/f/jason-root-medical-and-recovery ).
So, to raise money for Jason, we’re doing one of the only things we know: throwing a dance party! Please join us on October 8th at Monks in Missoula to raise money for Jason’s recovery fund while dancing to three of the Fox Den’s best: Chris Sage, Brian Derham, and Hnnh.
100% of the $5 cover will go to Jason’s recovery fund. We will also be collecting any additional cash donations at the door. Anyone who would like to donate otherwise, please visit https://www.gofundme.com/f/jason-root-medical-and-recovery .

Gingers On Ice is a live blend of sketch, improv, and stand-up comedy featuring two redheaded comedians, Jacob Godbey and Alex Tait, winners of Missoula’s Best Comedians 2018. After a lengthy live performance hiatus, the duo returns to Missoula in October with an all-new show full of witty banter, bantery wit, and British shock jock Whit Banter. A one-night-only engagement, Gingers On Ice will perform at the Zootown Arts Community Center at 7 PM on October 9th. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for the uneducated. Videos, photos, and more can be found at Godbey’s website, jrgcomedy.com. But what should fans and the uninitiated expect from the duo’s return? Tait and Godbey urge that they’ve grown up, but have not gotten boring. “As we experience, you know, grown-up things, we try to find what’s silly about those situations,” Tait said. “I’ve been a wedding DJ all summer, and then one day I DJd a funeral. I didn’t have to hear the Bee Gees that day,” Godbey added. While the show title, Gingers On Ice, may imply that the show features figure skating, the two insist they are terrible at ice skating. Godbey elaborated: “We just try to make you laugh hard enough that you’ll forget we don’t have ice skates on. Most theaters won’t let us flood and freeze the place. ”While Godbey and Tait have not performed in Missoula since 2018, they have not been resting on their laurels. The two spearheaded a comedy cooking web series for Delish.com, called “Gingers On…” It features 10 episodes in which the Gingers exhibit exactly what NOT to do while cooking. In 2020, they began their podcast “Ginger On Ginger,” which names SNL alum Brooks Wheelan as a guest. It can be found on all common podcasting platforms, such as Spotify, Google Podcasts, and Stitcher. Very excited to return to the stage together, the Gingers caution against bringing your family to the affair: “Don’t bring your kids,” Tait warns. Godbey concurs, “If you bring your children, you’re going to spend the next week answering questions you don’t want to answer.”
Masks are required for attendees for all Show Room events at this time. Masks may be removed for beverage consumption, but we ask that they please be worn at any time when not actively drinking.
