Weekend PICKS: Thursday, September 14th thru Sunday, September 17th
It’s the last weekend of summer – what are you doing to squeeze out the last drops as the season changes? The MUG has compiled the most comprehensive list of events in Missoula and around Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Weekend PICKS!
Thursday night at the Wilma, check out the local premiere of the new film “A Place (Sort of): The Ultimate Missoula Movie”, that looks back at a lot of fascinating history of our town, places that aren’t here any more, and how we got here. The film is locally produced, and includes music by some of our most beloved local musicians, such as Andrea Harsell.
The annual Fáilte Montana Irish Festival is happening at Caras Park on Friday. Perhaps not coincidentally, The Wilma also hosts legendary band Umphrey’s McGee Friday night, celebrating 25 years of the band’s music on their 2023 Tour.
Lolo will be rockin’ – and rollin’ – the big annual Logger Days Festival will be going on at The Jack Saloon Friday thru Saturday. If you like those big round decorated haybales like we do, you’ll want to get up to Ronan’s annual Harvest Festival on Saturday.
It’s that time of year again when the community is invited to help with the Grape Harvest on Saturday and Sunday at Ten Spoon Vineyard and Winery. Basses Covered will be playing later on Saturday as well at Ten Spoon. Another great “hands on” activity happening Saturday will be the 19th Annual Spontaneous Construction day at Home ReSource , aka “SponCon”.
Summer Farmers Markets season is starting to wind down, with most of the area markets hitting their final stretch. Go stock up with all the seasonal produce while you can.
Not to be missed is the Hellgate Roller Derby vs. Butte’s Copper City Queens team at the Missoula Fairgrounds on Saturday evening. Later on Saturday night, they’re having a Toga Party at Evaro Bar, and The Northern Lights are performing live.
The Whitefish Songwriter Festival runs Thursday thru Saturday, with 26 songwriters performing 40 shows at eight different venues over the three days – and some surprise #1 hit songwriters sitting in for what will be some amazing performances.
There are over 100 local music shows of one kind or another in the area throughout the weekend… we have options!
On Sunday, the Missoula Model Train Show & Swap Meet at Big Sky High School is happening starting at 10:00 am.
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Lots of late summertime weekend activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton. If you’re headed up to Glacier, there are some outstanding pit stops to make along the way. Road trip!
It’s still prime patio season – get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages on a sunny day. Try a new local brew! Support our local farmers and crafts people at the farmers markets. Take the family for a late summer hike, or get the bikes out for a cool early (or late) ride. Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.

“I can see you, your brown skin shining in the sun
– Don Henley, “The Boys of Summer”
You got that hair slicked back and those Wayfarers on, baby
I can tell you my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone”
